Copy Editing and Proofreading
What is the difference between copy editing and proofreading?
Copy editing
Once you are confident in your plot, characters, and other big-picture story issues, a copy edit will help refine the line-by-line reading of the book. Eliminating repetition, clarifying ideas, and improving the flow and readability of the book are the goals in this stage. You can expect in-line changes to your manuscript correcting spelling, grammar, capitalization, dialog tags, POV or tense shifts and other suggestions to improve the reading experience; also, a one-page summary of major issues or any suggestions.

Proofreading
This is the final polish once you are confident in your manuscript. This is the meticulous last look for inconsistencies of any kind, catching any lingering spelling, grammar, or formatting issues. You can expect in-line changes to your manuscript and a brief summary of changes highlighting persistent issues or things to consider.
